Dr. Melanie Curtis

Dr. Melanie Thompson Curtis grew up on a small ranch near Modesto. She spent her first two years of college at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Finding it much too far from the mountains, she transferred to U.C. Davis to finish her undergraduate degree while being a weekend ski instructor at Squaw Valley.

Dr. Curtis obtained her veterinary degree from the University of Florida and began practice as an equine veterinarian. She discovered quickly that breeding and foaling season conflicted with ski season and switched to small animal medicine. After 17 years in the Bay Area, she escaped to Nevada County in 2005 and has been serving the clients and patients of Best Friends Animal Clinic ever since. In addition to trail riding hunter/jumpers, she enjoys skiing, mountain bike riding, and all the great outdoor pursuits this area has to offer.
